India- Seventh Port

Day 1:

We arrived in India! I tried to wake up for sunrise but I just fell back asleep then woke up 2 hours later and went to breakfast. After that I got ready and then met with my class for my last field class. We drove for about an hour to get to a university and then met with students and had a delicious lunch. Then after lunch went to a classroom to watch a performance of the dance style called Kathakali which is unique to the region of Kerala. Then we got back on the bus and went back to the ship. I ate dinner there and then showered and packed. I feel asleep at 11pm and woke up at 2:30am!

Day 2:

So I woke up early, got dressed, braided my hair, grabbed all my bags and headed out. I felt so bad for my roommate because my alarms were loud and so early but there was no way I was missing this trip. I met with everyone who is in my field program to do the golden triangle of India. We headed out and got on the bus to go to the airport. I thought it was going to be a lot busier but it was not bad. We got through security which was interesting, because the ladies and gents had different scanners and then the women went into a box thing with a curtain to get further scanned by a woman. Right after security we boarded the plane after I saw some other people I know who were on the same flight.   We flew for 3 hours then landed in Delhi, India. We hopped on our big tour bus and headed to lunch and had delicious food and then went to Humayun’s Tomb and it was gorgeous. Then we went to Ghandi Smriti which is where Ghandi spent the end of his years and got assassinated. Then we went to Dilli Haat which is just an open air market and I bought a lot of things… then we went to the hotel.

Day 3:

We woke up and had breakfast and road in a bus for about 4 hours. We stopped to get lunch which was so yummy and had amazing vanilla ice cream. We then visited Agra fort which was spectacular. I am falling in love with architecture because I can’t comprehend how humans have built these structures. We then went to Sadar Market and I bought some bracelets and henna on my hand. We then went to our hotel and there were other SASers there. We ate a delicious dinner and then I watched from our room an Indian wedding that was taking place in the courtyard of the hotel. And then fell asleep kind of late at 1am and only slept for 4 hours.

Day 4:

That’s right—I only slept 4 hours and had to wake up at 4:45 to go to the Taj Mahal for sunrise! It was amazing to see in person. Unfortunately there was a lot of air pollution so it was foggy but it was still an amazing opportunity and I am so grateful. We went back to the hotel to eat breakfast and leave to head to Jaipur. I slept the entire first half which was about 3 hours. We then ate lunch at this village resort. And then got back on the road to head to Amer fort that took about another 2 hours. America fort was so amazing! We had to transfer to open jeeps to get up the hill. Then we toured around it and the sun set and then the buildings lit up. It was very cool seeing it at night.  We then headed to the hotel and had an amazing dinner and dessert. My roommate (on the trip) and I ordered some drinks to the room and I took a bath and fell asleep.

Day 5:

We woke up sort of early and I showered to was my hair then packed up my bag that was extra full after buying a lot of souvenirs. Then we headed out to go to the City Palace and Observatory that was amazing to learn about. We then went to lunch and I had just delicious food all around and I’m still full while I’m on the plane writing this a couple hours later. So after lunch we headed to the airport and got on the plane to fly back to Kochi. We had a layover for an hour and got on the next plane and continued on our journey back to the ship. I unpacked that night then fell asleep quick.

Day 6:

My friends woke me and my roommate up so that I could go with them for the day. We got on an auto which is a Tuk tuk other places and we went to a coffee shop to get some Masala chai. We then went to Princess street and Jew town for some more market shopping! And just to explore. We then headed back to the shop for on ship time at 3pm! I chilled the rest of the day and  got to see all my friends.
